Yangzhuang town in Yishui county, Linyi, East China's Shandong province, held a series of elderly care and education support activities in Zhangloutouzi village on Oct 15 ahead of the Chongyang Festival, organized by the town Party committee together with the county women's federation and several schools.
The county women's federation organized volunteers to prepare dumplings for older residents, who were also joined for conversation by the volunteers. In parallel, a donation ceremony titled "caring for rural education, helping dreams for the future" was held, with teams from Yishui Experimental Middle School and the county's second and fifth experimental primary schools delivering books, desks, chairs, computers and basketballs tailored to the village's needs, bridging urban and rural education resources.
Representatives from the donating organizations handed over the supplies, received by the village Party branch secretary, the first secretary and representatives of relevant units, with volunteers assisting and a group photo taken.
Other villages in the town have held a range of volunteer activities for older residents, including home visits with rice, flour and milk, free haircuts, dumpling-making at community canteens, cultural performances and anti-fraud outreach at local markets.
The town said it will use the Chongyang Festival activities as a starting point to keep mobilizing volunteers for rural cultural-ethical development, carrying forward the tradition of respecting the elderly and supporting rural education.
