The women's federation of Xinxing town in Lanling county, Linyi, East China's Shandong province, organized a free haircut event for older residents on Oct 15, with operators from the town's "warm-hearted hair salon" and women volunteers taking part.
Volunteers arrived early to disinfect tools and prepare the service area. Older residents lined up under the guidance of volunteers and chatted with neighbors as they waited. Barbers asked each resident about their preferred style and trimmed accordingly, taking account of age and face shape while chatting about how they were doing. When finished, residents' hair was neat and their appearance refreshed.

The town said the free haircuts addressed a practical daily difficulty for older residents and also carried forward the Yimeng spirit in practice. The women's federation will continue to use the salon as a grassroots base, integrating support for women's entrepreneurship with volunteer services and holding regular public-benefit activities.
